The article presents the results of the study. The urgency of studying the psychological characteristics of foreign students who study in Russian universities is justified. The differences of socio-cultural peculiarities in different countries complicate the already difficult period of yesterday's schoolchildren adaptation to the University. Adaptation, existential fulfillment of students was studied in groups of students from Russia and from abroad. The results showed that there was no reliable difference between these groups of students in the parameters of social and cultural adaptation, as well as its existential fulfillment components: self-distancing, self-transcendence, freedom, responsibility.
The article presents an analysis of involvement as an element of the structural content of a person's hardiness. Hardiness is an integral property of a person's personality, which is influenced by various factors. The authors consider the results of current research and make a theoretical interpretation of the characteristics describing the features of commitment. Commitment is understood as the ability to maximize immersion in activities. The results of the study of the level of commitment among the first-year students with the help of the hardiness test are given A.N. Leontiev.
The author describes and analyzes the results of the survey of first-year students of the Institute of pedagogics and psychology regarding the process of language learning in high school, reasons for entering the department of primary education (primary education and the English language), language learning difficulties and expectations in the first year of studies.
The article summarizes the author’s experience of using extra-curricular activities when teaching English to first-year Education majors (Primary education and the English language). Objectives, principles and types of extra-curricular activities are highlighted, examples of the extra-curricular activities conducted during the first year of studies with the Education majors are given and their education value is analyzed.
The author describes and analyzes the results of the survey of first-year students of the Institute of pedagogics and psychology (Technology and engineering and technical creativity education) regarding the process of language learning in high school and university and draws conclusions concerning the ways of improving English language teaching.
