The article deals with the concept of emotional competence applied to the modern teacher of higher school. It is revealed that the structure of emotional competence includes two major spheres – internal (regulation of personal emotions, their control) and external (understanding of others’ emotions and influencing them). Both these spheres are significant for the teacher of the higher school and his productive professional work.
In the modern world, in the context of a dynamically developing education system, an important role is given to the professional training of higher education teachers. One of the necessary conditions for improving the pedagogical skills of teachers is the exchange of knowledge and experience within the framework of network interaction. The article analyzes the experience of the Department of Russian and Foreign Languages of the Academy of the Federal Penal Service of Russia in organizing events and implementing projects that contribute to the professional growth of teachers. Various forms of work expand the professional horizons of teachers, form and develop the competencies necessary for a modern teacher.
