In work the essence and types of natural disasters are considered, dynamics and structure of emergency events in Russia in 2010-2013 is analysed, need of application of insurance as effective mechanism of protection of the state and society from various natural disasters is proved.

This work examines the cataclysms occurring in the modern world. Since cataclysms are currently actual, frequent, destructive processes, they should be paid special attention to. The article examines the main causes of occurrence, classification and types of cataclysms, and also analyzes the cataclysms occurring in the modern world using the example of 2017–2019. and identifies the main ways of solving and further forecasting these situations.
