The article is devoted to the socio-economic development of Russia and its regions, problems, obstacles to positive social development in many regions. Particular attention is touched upon to economic inequality in the development of the Russian Federation.

the article presents the results of a sociological survey held in Tolyatti, on perceptual features of the national character of the Russian citizens and the Russian companies. Analyzes the views of pupils and parents. It is concluded that in the perception of the traits of Russian combined positive and negative qualities. Opinions about contemporary Russian society are studied with the help of the opposite judgments. The results of the monitoring testify to positive changes of the Russian society in the public consciousness.
