The article considers import substitution as a key tool to ensure economic security of the Russian Federation. It analyzes the effectiveness of the implementation of the import substitution strategy in various sectors of the economy, identifies the main problems and obstacles to its successful implementation, and proposes measures to improve the efficiency of the import substitution process.
