The article deals with such an aspect of the individual as civil identity. It is shown that it has its own psychological structure, the components of which determine the severity of the individual's civic activity. Conscious citizenship as a factor in the development of active citizenship is formed due to the activation of a person's desire to be involved in the problems of society and the state, the desire to improve the external environment, the need to work for the benefit of other people, internal motivation for self-knowledge and self-improvement. According to the author's model of psychological structure of civic identity, the relationship of the components of "civil identity", "moral system", "social distance", "subjectivity" leads to the formation of man's awareness of their belonging to the state, the understanding of which is to each his significant personal meaning. Using the author's methodology "Differential questionnaire for diagnosing the status of civil identity of an individual", the severity of the statuses "achieved", "moratorium", "pseudo-identity", "imposed", "diffuse"was determined. Such a multidimensional approach allows us to see the psychological structure of a person's civic identity, to anticipate the further development of personal properties that ensure its formation, and to develop recommendations for its harmonization. The study showed that among women and men there are differences in the severity of statuses: for example, men have more formed the status of the achieved identity, and women have a moratorium. The imposed identity has the same degree of expression in both men and women. The manifestation of pseudo-identity is more typical for men, and diffuse-for women.

This article explores feminist motifs in the works of W.S. Maugham, with a particular focus on the novel "The Painted Veil" and short stories "The Round Dozen" and "The Force of Circumstance." Maugham demonstrates how his characters can reveal their inner strength and desire for self-realization, as well as challenge traditional notions of women's roles. Much attention is also paid to the portrayal of women from other ethnic groups, in case they turn out to be victims of colonial oppression. Furthermore, Maugham raises questions of the fate of unmarried women and their dependence on men and social norms.
