The paper considers the question of influence of applied orientation of stochastics training on the formation and development of probabilistic thinking and probabilistic and statistical representations of pupils. The authors present analysis of the survey results at senior level of formation of representations about the application potential of mathematics in terms of the use of mathematical ideas and methods in the field of future professional interests of graduates of high school non-mathematical sections.

The paper discusses the main aspects of teaching theory of probability and mathematical statistics for students majoring in jurisprudence. The authors formulate the aims and objectives of the introduction of the stochastic component of the mathematics course, determine how to achieve these goals through the implementation of an applied orientation of teaching mathematics and the inclusion of students in active cognitive activity during the performance of laboratory and practical work, solving problems and applied exercises.

Engineering education plays a key role in modern conditions of development of science and technology. It is necessary to implement a new technological breakthrough in the field of fundamental problems of engineering sciences, which in turn can be provided by preparation of highly qualified specialists in the field of engineering, capable to work out in professional sphere in the conditions of the development of new technologies and computerization; the development of new learning technologies based on fundamental basic knowledge and innovative approaches. The study, described and implemented by the authors, is development of new principles and methods of preparation of qualified engineers, with profound understanding of mathematics and its application opportunities in the engineering sciences: engineering, architecture and construction.
