Engineering education plays a key role in modern conditions of development of science and technology. It is necessary to implement a new technological breakthrough in the field of fundamental problems of engineering sciences, which in turn can be provided by preparation of highly qualified specialists in the field of engineering, capable to work out in professional sphere in the conditions of the development of new technologies and computerization; the development of new learning technologies based on fundamental basic knowledge and innovative approaches. The study, described and implemented by the authors, is development of new principles and methods of preparation of qualified engineers, with profound understanding of mathematics and its application opportunities in the engineering sciences: engineering, architecture and construction.

The integration of information technology and higher mathematics at the university is relevant in modern conditions. The consequence of this integration is the expansion of students' ideas about the possibilities of the mathematical apparatus. One of the difficulties of the systematic use of information technology in teaching higher mathematics is the lack of time. The authors propose to use information technology in the independent work of students.

In order to improve the level of mathematical training of engineering majors, it is necessary to pay special attention to those mathematical issues, without solid knowledge of which successful learning in a university is impossible. This article demonstrates methods of organizing classroom or independent students’ work by the example of solving tasks on the topic “Research of numerical series for convergence”. The article may be interesting to teachers as well as Mathematics and Engineering majors.
The article discusses the problems and ways of developing the motivation of military specialists to acquire knowledge in the field of mathematics.
