Complete transition to the distant learning format has required significant changes in the organization of the educational process, the forms of control and evaluation of students' academic achievements. The author of the article shares her practical experience in creating and implementing a distance course for teaching English and translation using the open-source learning platform Moodle. The effectiveness of using both individual course elements as well as of the entire range of tasks for the organization of independent educational and cognitive activities of students is under analysis.
