The intensive theoretical development of the problems of the activity approach to the pedagogical process was happening at the end of XIX – the beginning of the XX centuries. It was the special period in the history of a mankind. The rapid development of science and equipment, mechanical production, city building, railroads and communication lines led to the basic changes in the life of people. There was an urgent need in the education reforming. The comprehensive school was exposed to the sharp criticism for dogmatism, verbal nature of training, separation from the reality. The pedagogical discussion was held, the participants of which tried to overcome the traditional opposition of intellectual and physical activity and to consider these activities in unity and interrelation. The problems of the rapprochement of school with life, practice, independence development and initiative of pupils were especially actual. For the solution of these problems it was supposed to use the activity approach to the pedagogical process. The essence of the activity approach consisted in the use of different types of self-dependent pupils activity for stimulation of versatile development, the didactic and educational purposes.

The article deals with theoretical and methodological approaches to the formation of the information culture of cadets of military engineering specialties. The rationale for information, activity, competence, technology, personality-oriented and synergetic approaches to the research of the problem is presented.
Based on the fact that Internet communication has in no way replaced writing letters, the authors present the role of the competence of writing in teaching schoolchildren and students to communicate in a foreign language. Writing is becoming an important form of communication due to three characteristics inherent in communication partners: writing, and the mediated nature of communication and time delay. There is a mutual influence of tendencies towards differentiation, formalization, reduction of written speech, on the one hand, and a change in the nature of correspondence from a private register to a public one (Internet diaries, blogs, accounts, forums, chats, etc.), on the other.
In the article, the authors consider ways to improve the professional training of cadets of the branch in order to create well-trained and combat-ready officers of army and naval aviation, capable of reliably protecting the national interests of the state, guaranteeing its sovereignty and territorial integrity.
