The paper describes the tropes that are based on the contrast (antiphrasis, antiphrasis, oxymoron), and their functions, exercises for students to develop the ability to analyze the tropes. Contrast-based tropes give rich opportunities for designing bright, attention-grabbing, expressive expressions for creation satirical descriptions and characteristics, as they are based on opposition of the lexical content and meaning.

The article deals with the stylistic and content analysis of Bon Jovi song lyrics. A small number of most popular songs of the iconic American rock band are viewed within the context of acute social and inter-personal problems they raise and cultural associations they evoke. The role and functions of emotionally colored syntactic and lexical devices frequently used by the songwriters are also in the focus of the given paper.

The article deals with the way emotive-evaluative constructions function in D.A. Medvedev’s blog in Telegram. The paper shows a high stylistic potential and an obvious satirical effect of lexical, syntactic and phonetic tropes frequently used by the political blogger and ex-president. Historical, biblical and literary allusions are viewed within the context of linguacultural information they render and cultural associations they might arouse. The role of original, sustained and trite metaphors in Medvedev’s posts as a key manifestation of his individual manner is also in the focus of the given paper.
