In this paper the authors examine the profound changes in modern society, which inevitably change the trend of the relations between society and the armed forces of the Russian Federation, fill them with new content, put forward in the first place the reorganization of various kinds of structures of the state, conditions cardinal correction of military policy and military building. However, at present the situation of transition, characteristic of Russian society and the Armed Forces of originating a significant chain of critical problems and contradictions, touches the area of ​​the relationship between society and the armed forces, which are the major area of ​​disagreement, the collision of various interests and ambitions of the government. For the modern society the military sphere remains closed. Civil society is not able to influence decisions on the tasks of military policy and the construction of the Russian army, claimed at the highest level, but strictly from these findings depends directly on ensuring the defense capability of our state, the protection of its citizens from external aggression. An extremely tense atmosphere of civil-military relations creates a long and largely chaotic reform of the Armed Forces.

The article is devoted to the history of physical training in the time period from the Russian army to the Russian Armed forces. The main stages of development of physical training, its role in different historical periods are considered. Examples of works of the figures who made a significant contribution to the development of physical education of the soldier are given. It indicates the exceptional need for this type of training for military people. And also the concept for the future construction of the armed forces until 2020 is considered.
