Antique and medieval authors studied changes in language only in the context of other studies in morphology. The specificity of the seeking for an object and a person situation relevant for administrative and legal communication cause the frequent use of the verb to seek and verbal nouns naming different stages of investigative processes in cursive business texts. The author of the article explores the use of the verb to seek and its deverbatives in the regional clerical community, documents taking for consideration all the stylistical peculiarities (genre of a document) from the point of view of historical dictionaries and the Russian national corpus materials.
