The article is devoted to the Australian version of the English language, its formation and establishment, as well as the study of linguistic features. The article examines the varieties of dialects of Australian English, the influence of the British version on it, as well as the differences with the American English and British English.

The paper considers the term “sociolect” and the factors which influence its use. One of the most widespread sociolects of the Internet called “LOLspeak” together with the peculiarities of its orthography, grammar and word-formation is used as an example. The author of the paper emphasizes the importance of acceptation of sociolects as a factor determining the identity of its speakers.

This article examines the features of the use of profanity in the speech portrait of the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin. Analyzing his speeches at official events, we came to the conclusion that the colloquial vocabulary in Putin's speech takes on a new sound, because it is used harmoniously in political speech.

The article deals with verbs which characterize various aspects of the speech process and are active in Bоrbushino village dialect, Kirillovsky district, Vologda region. Word-forming nests which develop on the basis of such verbs are observed.

The work considers the semantics of the housing nomination based on the material of Russian old-timer dialects of Yakutia. The vocabulary presented in the dialects reflects the historical and cultural path of development of Russian old-timers, the peculiarities of the functioning and development of the language in a foreign language environment and isolation. Analysis of the semantics of nominations made it possible to identify a wide variety of species and types in the names of dwellings, which allowed the author to sys-tematize them into groups.
