In this article social problems in the concept of novelistic creativity by T.L. Peacock are considered. The role of the philosophical concept «the natural person» and an image «wood» in the «roman a’clef» «Nightmare Abbey», «Gryll Grange», «Headlong Hall» are defined.
The article presents the results of the research on the history of the development of such a literary qenre as the" workinq-class " novel in England. It examines the main characteristics of this qenre. And also, examples of English works written in it and their authors. Features of the artistic image peculiar to a particular author and their relation to the "workinq-class" novel.
The mythological image of Russia in English fiction was formed and repeated for a long time. Russian images have been transformed. Russia has always evoked mixed feelings among foreigners. For some, she was cold and harsh, but for others – mysterious and fabulous. The history of Russia in the twentieth century has had a strong influence on the perception of the Russian image in English literature. For instance, in the films by Penelope Lively "Moon Tiger" (1987), Penelope Fitzgerald "The Beginning of Spring" (1988) and Helen Dunmore's "Siege" (2001) and "Betrayal" (2011). Russian traditions and images undoubtedly had a huge impact on the formation of English literature.
The article is devoted to the consideration of mythological images in the work of C.S. Lewis «The Chronicles of Narnia». The author of the article makes a comparative analysis of the mythological images found in the cycle with the images of ancient mythology. The author's observations show the connection of the heroes of the story with the creatures of ancient myths. The presence of Christian principles in the structure of the novel is also noted.
Any language constantly changes, it happens thanks to the imagination of the people who speak it, jokes, historical aspects and the expansion of other peoples. The base that we have now in English has acquired a modern look thanks to borrowings from other languages. Mainly, innovations occurred under the influence of the German invasions and the development of the aristocracy.
