The paper is devoted to one of the actual forms of education in modern technical гniversity – essay: the peculiarities of the essay as a qualifying written work on University course «Philosophy» are described in the paper by referring to the history of the essay as a genre (Michel de Montaigne, «Experience»). Awareness of specific genre features of essay allows students to perform this type of work better, replacing it by neither composition, nor the abstract of the study. Special attention is paid to the problems of «theming» and «purity of form» of an essay.
Literary and critical creativity, theatrical criticism and dramaturgy, translation papers of the famous critic have been considered in the article. I have presented to the literary community previously unknown material. The activities of the critic in working with young writers have been analyzed. They, in his opinion, were a «reserve of Kazakh literature.» The significant contribution of Kalzhan Nurmakhanov to the Kazakh essays has been noted. Kalzhan Nurmakhanov was responsible, with an active life position, a polemical, sharp, principled critic. He was an eminently professional translator. Kalzhan Nurmakhanov spoke fluently in several European and Oriental languages. He read in the original many examples of world art classics. He, thanks to his talent, experienced an accelerated professional formation and development. Kalzhan Nurmakhanov contributed to the speedy entry into the all-Union cultural context of the masterpieces of Kazakh literary art. This was his main life and professional task.
