In the scientific article the special importance for ZakharPrilepin's novel "Abode" of a keynote of the tea having wide functionality and the original embodiment in the art text is proved. This romantic image symbolizing a high-spiritual impulse of Russian intelligentsia to search of true sense of life is shown in the work of the modern writer in the terrifying degradation under the influence of the person who has become hardened in a condition of a bogoostavlennost, turned in "cattle" and "slave", the barbarian. Falling of the person, on belief of the writer, conducts also to a mutation of an animal and in general the natural world.

In article the analysis of the signs symbols "life shadow" and "Yakov's ladder" which allow to realize a plan of the author of the novel is given and to define the central idea of the work consisting in a thought of need of transformation of "life in life", of the importance of spiritual development of the person which needs to define sense of the life correctly. It is proved that two case phenomena are conceptual symbols, dividing characters into two groups: living terrestrial life (Marusya, Heinrich) and seeking for transformation of "life in life".
