The article deals with stylistic ways of creating female characters in the classical works of W.S. Maugham and O. Wilde. The writers’ imagery is viewed within the context of motifs and themes touched upon in the novels “Theatre” and “The Picture of Dorian Gray”. Parallels are drawn between the personages of actresses introduced in Maugham and Wilde’s writing. The author comes to the conclusion that Maugham and Wilde’s characterization is based upon a frequent use of tropes showing high expressive potential.

The article deals with the stylistic and content analysis of Bon Jovi song lyrics. A small number of most popular songs of the iconic American rock band are viewed within the context of acute social and inter-personal problems they raise and cultural associations they evoke. The role and functions of emotionally colored syntactic and lexical devices frequently used by the songwriters are also in the focus of the given paper.
