The authors consider history of the formation and development of the chair of the Russian history of the Far Eastern State Technical University: analyze the particularities of existence of the chair in past soviet period and particularities of existence of the chair in condition humanitarisation of higher education within the framework of technical high school. It is given the detailed description of scientifically methodical work of the employees of the chair in structure of the engineering high school and the biography of the employees, their pedagogical and scientific achievements.

The article presents the results of the research in media consumption of educational internet resources by first-, second-year technical university students. Changes are observed in preparation of students for classes, for various forms of control (control works, exams, summary reports with the involvement of internet resources). The request of students for general media content, and mathematical content in particular, as well as the features of "digital " generation thinking are analyzed. The authors conclude that the time of media education in Russia has not come yet, the paradigm shift of media consumption will occur in the next 5-10 years.

The article deals with the terminology of media education, definitions of media competence of students at technical university in the foreign language’s educative process. The author provides insight into the special aspects of media competence’s formation with the modern foreign media’ enjoyment, particularly Web 2.0 technologies. Web 2.0 technologies include Webquest, Calaméo, Gloster, LearningApps, Mindmeister, Podcasts, Quizlet, Voki, Voxopop, Wordle.
