The paper aims to consider theoretical and practical issues of creating e-textbooks as a model of foreign language teaching for special purposes. The authors review e-textbook specific features, key learners’ competences, the system of exercises and assignments aimed at developing the competences. The authors describe their own experience of crafting -textbook for Master students studying Economics.

The modern age is the age of globalization, the age of the Internet and multimedia technologies. Web services, global network and multimedia technologies are successfully being introduced into all spheres of life, and the sphere of education is no exception. These technologies greatly simplify both the process of obtaining school education and the process of education in general. The use of information and communication technologies (ICT) positively influences the learning process, it allows to present the material much more clearly, to make it more interesting and presentable, which is important in the process of teaching the modern generation. The article considers one of the web 2.0 services varieties, namely the time line, compares their similarities and differences, and also demonstrates how, in what lessons and on what material this product can be used.
