The article analyzes the degree of demand for innovations among the residents of Samara region. Based on the research conducted by methods of questionnaire and expert survey, the authors identify the most popular innovations in education, medicine, municipal administration, in the cultural and leisure spheres.

The paper deals with the concept “innovative openness of population”. Тhe use of the Bourdieu social fields concept, structural-functional, phenomenological, social-cultural and axiological approaches allow to conclude about the existence of innovative fields, where innovative open population operates. The paper pre-pared within the research project supported by the Russian Foundation for Humanities № 16-13-63003.

The paper analyzes the main factors of innovative development in the region: socio-economic conditions of innovation development, scientific and technological potential, innovation activity and innovation policy quality. The author identifies the main advantages of the Samara region in comparison with other regions and analyzes the main problems of innovative development in the region. The paper is prepared within the supported scientific project No. 16-13-63003.

The paper attempts to analyze the causes of negative attitudes and resistance to innovation on the part of the population from the perspective of P. Sztompka theory of social change. The author, based on secondary data analysis, concludes that past 30 years changes in the country the have all the signs of an injury. It left its mark on the perception of innovation by some population.
