The paper describes the features and functions of a modern additional education of children. The importance of socializing additional education function. It describes the problems that arise in the course of an additional education of children with difficulties in social adaptation. The analysis of empirical data obtained during the survey of subjects related to the implementation of additional education of children with difficulties in social adaptation.

The article deals with the systematization of the approaches to the classification of the extreme cases. The author specifies the notion "extreme case" in the context of the activity of primary school children. The author describes her own approach to the allotment of the extreme cases types according to the place of their origin.
