The article deals with the geopolitical threats to the sovereignty of our country, coming from the US strategy aimed at preserving the American Empire as a global leader. The authors give a brief description of these threats and analyze some features of probable war against the Russian Federation.

The main provisions and structure of geopolitics as a science created in its modern form mainly by representatives of Anglo-Saxon countries and designed to justify the claims of these countries to world domination. The structure of geopolitics is presented and the basic universal principles of practical geopolitics – geostrategy are formulated. The authors contemplate goals of Russian foreign policy in the Arctic region and the role of airborne troops in the defense of Russian Arctic territories.

The article briefly examines the history of the Arctic Ocean Route development from ancient times to the present day, which unambiguously attests to the priority of the Russian people and the Russian state in exploration of the Arctic seas and lands, development of navigation in the Arctic Ocean seas and development of European and Asian Arctic lands. This implies the historical right of Russia to own the Arctic region and the Arctic Ocean Route. The strict need to protect the national interests of our country in the arctic region is justified.
