The article highlights the principles of selection of educational material and its content, discusses the types of exercises for the formation of phonetic skills, features of work on articulation and intonation.

The problem of speech development is considered in the theory and practice of teaching the Russian language as one of the most important. This article discusses the development of the speech of younger schoolchildren in literacy lessons. The conditions of speech development are highlighted. The specifics of teaching literacy to first-graders are determined. Some didactic means of speech development and tasks for them are presented.
