The article deals with the problems and ways of solving the formation of competencies among students of humanitarian faculties in the field of information technology.

The relevance of the article is due to the processes that have been taking place in Russian society over the past few years. At the same time, the education system had to take into account the goals that our society faces, the formation of the digital economy in the conditions of the fourth industrial revolution. The purpose of the study is to analyze the main directions of using digital tools to increase cognitive activity in the classroom. The materials of the article can be used in the preparation of practical classes at universities, as well as for the organization of teacher training.
