In the article the need of using possibilities of information technologies for education is considered. The question of distance learning a foreign language by correspondence students in the information educational environment is discussed. The article deals with the theory of learning styles by D.A. Kolb. The origin and development of this theory is being studied. The influence that the process of introducing of modern information and communication technologies in learning has had on it is considered. The theory of learning styles correlates with the main provisions of the theory of contextual learning A.A. Verbitsky. The conclusion is made about the role of these theories in the construction of the theoretical basis of the pedagogical design of the network adaptive educational environment.

The article discusses the processes of digitalization of education at the present stage, characterized by the significant impact of the pandemic and the social restrictions associated with it. The concepts of "digitalization" and "digitalization of education" are analyzed. A three-element hierarchical classification system for the forms of digitalization of education is proposed, which includes an educational information space, a digital educational platform and computer tools specialized in particular didactic tasks.
