The paper deals with application of interactive methods of foreign language teaching as one of the most important means of improving professional training at a non-language university. The use of an interactive teaching model is provided by modeling life situations, using role-plays and game-forms of learning and collaborative problem solving. It allows students to become active participants of the educational process that leads to further development of their cognitive activity.

The article is devoted to the peculiarities of organizing work in small groups while teaching a foreign language. This kind of work is viewed under the consideration of a learner centered approach. Special attention is given to the necessity of using the method of a role-play in small groups while teaching a foreign language. The article contains original exercises stimulating the level of motivation with the learners and facilitating the quality of education.
The formation of intercultural competence of future teachers is determined by the need to prepare a teacher to work in a multicultural educational space. Among the technologies of active learning, a special place is occupied by role-playing, which contributes to the development of skills and interpersonal interaction, as well as the creative abilities of students.
