The author studies the essence of strategic management as a basis for the development of effective business. The key components of strategic management are identified. The components of the strategy, mission and goals are identified in the context of strategic management formation. It is proved that the most difficult stage of strategic management in business is the practical implementation of the strategy, since it is necessary to go through all levels of enterprise management correctly, which should be taken into account by the majority of its divisions.
The article is devoted to the issues of strategic management of the plant growing industry, taking into account its specificity in the agro-industrial complex. The work reveals the essence of the category "strategic management", shows the main stages of this process in relation to the crop production industry and the characteristics of the methods used at each stage of strategic management. As an example, the developed strategy for the development of the grain industry for an agricultural enterprise of small land use is presented.

The paper considers the strategic relationship between the organization and the environment, and also highlights the purpose and objectives of strategic analysis. The place and role of strategic analysis in the organization's management system was determined, and its advantages were determined. The main components of strategic analysis affecting its effectiveness are proposed and considered.
