The article is devoted to the history and the development of the chair of foreign languages and applied linguistics of Omsk State Agrarian University named after P. A. Stolypin.

The paper is devoted to the problems and methods of forming competences for students of higher schools in Russia in accordance with new educational stand ards on discipline «Foreign language».

The article supposes the complex of exercises, which help to form general cultural competence during the Bachelors’ training at the lessons of foreign language.
