The article describes the analysis of typical grammatical errors made by Chinese students of the preparatory faculty when studying Russian as a foreign language, their classification, and an attempt to determine the cause of the failure in the formation of language competence.
The article focuses on the factors that influence the academic success of Chinese students who get higher education in the Russian Federation. These factors are the differences in the systems of education in the two countries, the peculiarities of mentality and cultural contexts as well as the level of the foreign language competence These problems are viewed from students’ perspective. The results of the survey are analyzed and conclusions as to the ways of tackling the problems are made.
