The article covers some practical issues of teaching phonetics. It highlights the importance of integrated work on developing phonetic and spelling skills. The authors describe and suggest some techniques to master spelling skills, which proved to be effective.

The article deals with compound word spelling, including reduplicate formations. It is noted that significant changes have occurred in compound word spelling recently. Along with the traditional «hyphen», such signs as a space, exclamation point, comma and auxiliary parts of speech began to be used in reduplicate spelling in accordance with their punctuation and spelling shape, as well as graphic marking. The appearance of compound words written with breaking the traditional norms of spelling is associated with the expansion of hyphen functions, as well as with intentions of authors seeking to demonstrate expression and specify semantics by means of a graphical shift. New formations are occasional words, the originality of which is largely determined by the practice of Internet discourse.
there is an increased demand for effective military communications in English. The problem of the choice of the variant (American or British) of the English language to study at a military educational institution has been discussed in the article. There are distinctions in pronunciation, spelling, grammar, and lexicon of the British and American variants of the English language. The ways the American variant influences the British variant have been shown. The article states importance of studying these distinctions to acquire professional communicative competence in English at a Military Educational Institution.
The article discusses the problems of the formation of spelling vigilance in primary school students. A small overview of research on the problems and principles of spelling is presented. The characteristics of the concepts "spelling vigilance, spelling" are given.
