The article notes that the competency model in multilingual and multicultural education in university focuses on the development of students' ability for interpersonal communication based on the dialogue, intercultural interaction and mutual enrichment of cultures.
the article deals with one of the important issues of teaching - the problem of communicative competence, which is actively developed in foreign and domestic scientific literature. Communicative competence is not only the ability of an individual to establish and maintain the necessary relationships with other people, and to provide communication through the perception of someone else's speech and reading authentic texts. The article considers the development of the communicative competence in acts of intercultural communication through adequate perception of interlocutor’s speech and understanding authentic texts, which is the result of secondary language personality formation of military foreigners.
The article touches upon the issue of forming communicative competence while working with authentic texts. The author touches upon the problem of formation of communicative competence of schoolchildren, paying special attention to the possibility of using adapted authentic texts.

The article focuses on the role of students' critical thinking in improving their communicative competence in foreign language classes. The author notes the relationship between the level of critical thinking and the development of proficient language skills. A number of practical communicative tasks in the English language are proposed that the teacher can use to stimulate critical thinking among students. Conclusions are made about improving the communicative competence of students and understanding of a target language system.
