The article presents materials that reveal the features of social intelligence and the quality of formation of communication skills among students of the psychological, social and medical faculties of the medical University. The study involved 60 respondents, who were medical University students aged 18 to 23 years. The results of the study showed that students of the medical and psychological-social faculty were not characterized by a high level of empathy; the study subjects have a medium level of social intelligence development; most often, students of medical and psychological – social faculties show a competent response style.
The article presents materials revealing peculiarities of social intelligence and quality of formation of communicative skills in students of psycho – social faculty of medical university. After analysing the results of the study, it is possible to draw conclusions about the difference in the degree of empathy and importance of specific parameters in the structure of empathy of students of psychological and social and medical faculties. The hypothesis was put forward on the presence of a substantially high level of empathy in students of the psycho-social faculty, a high level of development of partial social intelligence. On the basis of the obtained data, recommendations were developed for the active development of social and emotional intelligence and through various techniques and exercises.
The article deals with the psychological features of forecasting in students of high school age. It is proved that the future is increasingly included in the consciousness of the student, finding its expression in the representation of not only the present and the past, but also the future time, in the features of self-regulation mechanisms based on the anticipation of the older student.

Expansion of practical orientation in teaching cadets based on a contextual approach is considered as one of the important ways to solve this problem. The article notes that the activity of cadets in contextual learning is achieved by transforming educational activities into professional ones. The directions of the introduction of the principles of contextual learning in the educational process of the university are formulated to create conditions for enhancing the cognitive activity of cadets in active types of classes, such as business games, analysis of specific problem situations, role playing.
