The article reveals the need for preschool children to form elementary ideas about fine art based on working with a painting. A category of children with high, medium and low indicators of the level of elementary ideas about fine art based on working with a picture through conversations was identified. The results of the formative stage of an empirical study with a group of children of middle preschool age, aimed at forming elementary ideas about fine art based on working with a painting, are presented.
