The paper describes the forms of interaction between the chair of Technology and Methods of Technology Teaching in Vyatka State University of Humanities and representatives of light industry enterprises of the region in training students with major “Design of light industry”.

The paper is devoted to design of collections as an effective mean for the development of creative abilities and professional development of future designers of light industry. The paper discusses the improvement of academic disciplines of training, characteristics of kinds of collections, main stages of design of the author’s collection.

The paper deals with the problems and prospects of light industry development in our country, and innovation as one of methods to increase competitiveness of domestic products.
