The article is devoted to one of the actual problems of using politically correct vocabulary in the sphere of intercultural communication. Some peculiarities of using such vocabulary are analyzed in the article. The considered spheres of the phenomenon are those of racial and ethnic spheres as well as the spheres of physical characteristics of a human being. The conclusions are made about the usage of the analyzed phe-nomenon in the English linguistic culture.

The relevance of the research topic in the article is due to ongoing changes in Russia at the political, economic and socio-cultural levels, which have necessitated changes in the higher education system. An objective contradiction arose between the growing need of a modern person for the ability to perform productive linguistic and cultural activities in the context of rapid updating of information and the undeveloped theoretical and methodological foundations of linguistic culture formation in the process of students’ self-education in teaching a foreign language. The purpose of the research: the development of the linguistic culture formation concept in the process of students’ self-education in teaching a foreign language and its implementation at the university. The article was prepared with the use of the following methods: theoretical review and analysis of domestic and foreign literature on the research problem, pedagogical observation and generalization of Russian universities experience. According to the results of the research, it was found that the use of the concept, developed in the course of the research, contributed to solving the most important scientific and methodological problems of effective training for linguistic and cultural activities and continuous self-education of students in foreign language teaching at Russian universities. The theoretical significance of the study lies in the development of a holistic concept, which reveals the essence, goals and objectives, the substantive characteristics of the linguistic culture formation model in the process of self-education of students in teaching a foreign language. The practical significance of the research lies in the development of a method of linguistic culture forming in the process of students’ self-education in teaching a foreign language at the university. As a result, it is concluded that the use of the data, obtained in the course of the research, will allow us to further adapt the method of forming linguistic culture in the process of students’ self-education in teaching a foreign language at other types of educational institutions: secondary and additional professional education.

This study is a contrastive examination of idiomatic expressions in Russian and Yakut languages. The significance of the study lies in highlighting the common characteristics of the two languages and their areas of difference, thereby contributing to debate on linguistic universal and language awareness. Moreover, it is useful for contrastive linguistics for idioms analysis of Russian and Yakut. The aim of this study is to define equivalents in paremiological fund in both languages. Some comments of non-equivalent words in Yakut language are given.

The relevance of the research of the stated topic is due to the need to analyze the features of the formation of linguistic and cultural competence of foreign students of a pedagogical university on the basis of a competence-based approach from the point of view of modern research and the situation that develops in the modern education system. The purpose of the study is to analyze the features of the formation of linguistic and cultural competence of foreign students of a pedagogical university on the basis of a competence-based approach. The leading approaches to the study of this process are the analysis of the concept and the main components of linguistic and cultural competence, as well as the analysis of the activities of methodologists and practicing teachers in the formation of linguistic and cultural competence of foreign students of a pedagogical university on the basis of a competence approach. As the main result of the research, the authors come to the conclusion that the formation of linguistic and cultural competence of foreign students of a pedagogical university should be carried out not only on the basis of a competence-based approach, but also with maximum immersion in Russian-language linguistic culture, and the examples of tasks given by the authors for foreign students of pedagogical specialties will help to accomplish this mission. The theoretical significance of the study is in the fact that it provides a detailed analysis of the concept of competence in general and linguistic and cultural competence in particular, identifies the features of the formation of linguistic and cultural competence of foreign students of a pedagogical university on the basis of the competence approach, and also provides examples of specific exercises aimed at its formation. The practical significance of the research lies in the fact that the research materials, as well as the conclusions made by the authors, can be successfully used to develop lesson summaries and individual exercises aimed at forming the linguistic and cultural competence of foreign students of a pedagogical university on the basis of a competence-based approach.
