The paper analyzes the role of irrational attitudes in shaping the subjective assessment of life quality in terms of disability. The author empirically proves irregularity of psychological ill-being of persons with disabilities in different spheres of life, analyzes the connection of irrational high self-esteem and self-obligations.

Only when people have a personal productive and effective experience of relationships and transformation of these relationships (at the intrapersonal, interpersonal, intergroup, etc. levels), can it be based on changing the ideas about the sick and healthy people, their “usefulness” and relationships , change research approaches to disability and its prevention and coping.

The article focuses on priority theoretical models in social work with people with disabilities. The concept of social advocacy and the forms of rendering legal assistance to disabled people are revealed. For example, the implementation of the activities of public organizations of persons with disabilities and their cooperation with the Social Insurance Fund of the Russian Federation is considered such a model as empowerment. The vitalistic model of social work with the disabled is revealed as a way for a person to form the desire to reproduce and fulfill life as a biosocial being.
