The task of forming economic competence is important for education majors primarily due to the high social responsibility of teachers. Successful effective professional activity of a teacher is possible when combining personal values in economic relations with social ones, which is reflected in the results of educational activities. The relevance of the problem under study is due to the need to form new approaches to the development of economic competence of students in the context of an intensive transformation of economic relations concerning social spheres. The purpose of the study is to develop a model for the formation of the economic competence of education majors – future teachers. The analysis of the study was made on the basis of a universal model of economic competence formation among university students, proposed by G.M. Morozova, including theoretical research of her dissertation and articles, and the works of other scientists. The scientific articles on the formation of the economic competence among pedagogical students made up the material for the study. Research methods: generalization, analysis and synthesis of information, comparison. The leading method of researching the problem involves modeling based on a didactic approach to teaching Economics to non-Economics majors. The main results of the study allowed us to conclude that the universal model of the economic competence formation among university students proposed in the dissertation by G.M.Morozova is suitable as a structural model for the formation of the economic competence among education majors, allowing to save time and educational resources in the implementation of structural ties in models that are discussed in detail in this article. In this regard, there is reason to believe that the model is open for flexible adjustment according to changing conditions, forms and methods of education, which can also be assumed in relation to similar models for other specialties. The theoretical significance of the study is reflected in the visualization of the main universal provisions of the dissertation by G.M. Morozova in the formation of the economic competence of university students, presented in the form of a structural diagram. Accordingly, the practical significance of the study indicates the flexibility of the presented scheme-model, according to the authors of the study, open for changes in various areas of education.
