This article presents the role of technological innovation in the economy, describes the life cycle of the product. Examples of the use of technological innovations in economic sectors are given, the advantages of technological innovations in the economy are considered, and barriers that slow down or, in some cases, prevent the use of technologies are noted.

The article is devoted to the challenges and prospects for the Russian economy in the field of import substitution of innovations.
