Research of phraseological units functioning as a form of the author’s consciousness in fiction opens up new perspectives in the studies of artistic images. PUs in Zamyatin’s «Farewell from nowhere» express his system of characters and the main idea of human return to Christian values. The article analyses the peculiarities of cognitive approach to studying PUs that contribute to effectively considering internal mechanism of creating the lines of narration and the development of literary themes. The choice of PUs reflects the author’s outlook and his ability to describe the surrounding world by means of PUs semantics. This investigation of the novel language is justified because it helps to understand the author’s motives and dependence on his views.
