The paper focuses on translation methods of English metaphors and similes in literary text. Metaphor and simile translation techniques are analyzed and described on the examples from the novel W. S. Maugham "Theatre". The paper shows the specific features, problems and translation methods of the metaphors and similes.

In the article we consider the peculiarities of precedent phenomena translation in the novel by C. Bushnell, «Sex and the city». Under the precedent phenomena we understand such phenomena, which are widely known to representatives of the national linguistic-cultural community, relevant in cognitive terms, and constantly recurring in the speech of linguistic-cultural community representatives. There are several ways of translating precedent phenomena: transcription, transliteration, generalization and concretization, grammatical transformation, antonymic and descriptive translation. There are a lot of precedent phenomena in the novel and in this regard, the translation of the novel, made by N. Bank, is of great interest.
The author of the article is bringing attention to the question about a capability of literary text to explicate potential opportunities of the various Linguistics elements and mechanisms. The process of explication in the aspect of a producing essence of language is being considering (naming, renaming, diminutives), research is basing on a novel «The Abode», Zakhar Prilepin.
The article examines the features of the translation of a literary text, namely, its factual component, which reflects the surrounding reality in the vision of the author of the work. Special attention is paid to the question of the equivalence of translation of specific national features that are perceived by the reader of the translated text differently than they are perceived by the reader-a native speaker of the author's language.
The importance of studying non-verbal means as aesthetically significant signs in a literary text is revealed, the non-verbal communication of the main character of the novel «Theater» by W. S. Maugham is considered as an important component of understanding the psychological characteristics of the protagonist, her relations with other characters. The necessity of studying the names of gestures, facial expressions, ways of indicating emotions in English lessons during the formation of communicative competence is justified. The tasks for the 11th grade students aimed at studying non-verbal signs in literary texts are described.
