The distinctive features of slang in Russian and English are considered in the article. The aim of the article is to study the usage of slang among young people. Based on the performed research the author concludes that slang is of great importance for young people. Thanks to slang, young people can easily find a common language with each other and learn new foreign words.

The article is devoted to the translation of phraseological units, which represent one of the most important layers of the vocabulary faced by a person who studies English as a foreign language. The authors of the article aim to identify the main problems associated with the translation of these lexical units into Russian, and the ways to overcome them. On the basis of the analysis, the main types of phraseological units, their origin sources and peculiarities of these lexical units translation are distinguished.

The article deals with the study of phraseological units frame structure from a cognitive perspective in the English language. The frame "mental activity" is presented by the English phraseology. The using frame possibility is proved in relation to the analysis of phraseological units. The analysis of frame structure "mental activity" allowed us to understand the specifics of English world perception.

The paper is devoted to the study of the proverbs picture of the world with the key token of “promise” in English language. This topic is important in modern linguistic science. The aim of the paper is to establish the main features of lexical components in the language and to define the ethnic identity of analyzed proverbs. The proverbs in this research have been analyzed in the framework of cognitive approach. The English proverbs reflect a social way of the peoples’ life.

The paper analyses the method of projects, which is one of the most efficient in teaching the English lan-guage. The paper examines the main theoretical and practical basis for the use of project methodology in educational process. Moreover, the paper illustrates the results of the experiment of the Department of History and Philology of the Stavropol State Pedagogical Institute. The use of the method of projects is thought to improve the motivation to language learning. The purpose of the research is to prove the effectiveness of the method of projects.
