When students make course works and exercises on designing objects, professional skills in design engineering are forming. The aim of the teacher is to develop methodology for educational technologies, based on the theoretical foundations of design and design using the latest, innovative ways of education. In the article the authors describe the use of competences, obtained during the educational process, on the ex-ample of the mock-up making.

The paper offers an option of filling the content of the discipline "Fundamentals of design" for 10 grade students of higher school. The program is an obligatory component of the regional curriculum of edu-cational institutions of the Kirov region. Organization of students activities is performed in the active form in three complementary and interdependent lines: technology of creation and description of a project; improving students’ personal qualities for successful mastering project activity; methods of scientific creativity and development of creative personality by means of project activities. The result of the discipline are socially relevant research projects, designed by students.

The paper deals with a brief analysis of the use of folk motifs in design of clothing in the last century and early 21st century and shows the result of creative work of students of Technology and Design Department, based on Russian folk female costume and implemented in collection of demi-season coat.

The paper is devoted to design of collections as an effective mean for the development of creative abilities and professional development of future designers of light industry. The paper discusses the improvement of academic disciplines of training, characteristics of kinds of collections, main stages of design of the author’s collection.

The paper describes the sequence of actions for design of decorative ceramic products. The recommendations are given for students majoring in “Arts and crafts” and “Ceramics”.
