The article presents the results of an empirical study on the existence of a relationship between self-esteem and the degree of perfectionism in adolescents. The author substantiates the relevance of the analysis of this problem in adolescence. A correlation analysis of the results revealed the presence of an inverse significant relationship between the level of self-esteem, in particular, on the scales of "self-confidence", "character" and "peer authority", and the degree of severity of socially prescribed perfectionism. The findings will be of interest to educational psychologists and educators in organizing developmental work on the formation of self-esteem and reducing perfectionism in adolescence.

The paper attempts to characterize the Dunning-Kruger effect from the point of view of the psychological content of socially conditioned cognitive errors (distortions). The Dunning-Kruger effect is understood as the tendency of people with a low level of competence to make erroneous conclusions and wrong decisions, but unable to realize this due to the low level of their competence. A study was conducted in order to specify the psychological content of the effect. The results showed that the psychological characteristics that contribute to the manifestation of the Dunning-Kruger effect include inflated self-esteem and anticipatory inadequacy of the individual.
