The article is devoted to the problem of development and formation of pedagogical education in the Rus-sian province. The author describes the activity of the educational institutions which were carrying out teach-ers’ training in Russia and the trans Ural region in the second half of the XIXth – the beginning of the XXth centuries.

The author discusses the experience of the secondary language personality formation on the example of language education in the national pre-revolutionary gymnasium. In the comparative aspect, parallels are stated with the requirements of modern foreign language education. The organization and content of foreign language education in pre-revolutionary gymnasium late XIX early XX century are disclosed, the author allo-cates axiological meaningful experience that can be extrapolated on a modern language education.

The self-competence is considered in connection with the foreign language training competence of professional linguist. In particular, stresses the importance of forming of the self-educational competence of the future linguist-interpreters in learning process at the university.

The paper takes up different aspects of the phenomenon of tolerance and the specifici-ty of their representation in the writings of Russian philosophers such as N. Berdyaev, I. Ilyin, V.
