The main stages of preparing a lecture (work with documents, work with content, planning a lecture, preparing a lecture delivery plan, some features of literature selection) are considered. The main mistakes of young lecturers in preparing for the lecture are indicated. Based on the study, the author concludes that the achievement of the lecture objectives, the solution of the educational tasks, the implementation of the competences stated in the discipline work program is possible only due to a high-quality initial preparation of the lecture material, thereby creating the conditions for the use of innovative pedagogical methods and techniques in the lecture work.

The main criteria for assessing the quality of lectures from philological positions, the stages of preparation for the lecture, the main mistakes of young teachers in preparing for the lecture are considered. The author pays attention to the teacher’s speech peculiarities during delivering a lecture, and gives some methodological recommendations. Based on the study, the author concludes that the teacher must speak not only a philologically impeccable language, but also implement the communicative competences of the students.
