The article presents the results of a study of the ethnolinguistic features of the language in English and Russian travel guidebooks in the aspect of intercultural communication on the example of travel guide to Japan. They are interesting because of a large number of different geographic and ethnographic realities, as well as due to the exceptional identity of Japanese culture. The features of the way of life in Russian and English guidebooks are in the use of ethnographic realities that define the concepts of life, religion, culture. The natural habitat is represented in English and Russian guidebooks by various toponymic realities.

The article is devoted to the problem of translating regional culture-bound items, which primarily relate to untranslatable words, and, therefore, there are difficulties in choosing a suitable equivalent, which can be overcome, only if the translator has rich background knowledge and knowledge of various translation methods, such as explication and descriptive way.

In this paper we analyze examples of the names of the shops, hotels and companies of the city of Irkutsk, in which the Latin graphemes used or represented whole words in the English language. Also described are cases when, on the contrary, English words written in Cyrillic are used in the text without adequate translation. The classification of examples on a formal basis is carried out, texts are estimated from the point of view of normativity, appropriateness, language taste.

This article is devoted to the research of the formation and functioning processes of the "fashionable" vocabulary of the educational field in the Russian language of the 21st century. The study presents a thematic classification of lexical and phraseological units, which are characterized by widespread use in the contemporary Russian language and Russian speech. Special attention is given to the description of "fashionable" verbal signs, which are the latest borrowings from the American English.

This article examines the problem of translating proper names from English into Russian and from Russian into English in fiction. The article analyzes various examples of translation of fictional proper names and the difficulties that the translator faces in the process.
