The article is devoted to the peculiarities of organizing work in small groups while teaching a foreign language. This kind of work is viewed under the consideration of a learner centered approach. Special attention is given to the necessity of using the method of a role-play in small groups while teaching a foreign language. The article contains original exercises stimulating the level of motivation with the learners and facilitating the quality of education.

In the article the author analyses the role and potential of sight translation as a means of teaching consecutive interpreting to military interpreters. Examples of exercise types for developing sight translation skills are given (both for classroom-based and out-of-class work). Besides, an efficient methodological approach to teaching interpreting at non-specialized educational institutions is presented.
